How CS2 updates arrive

Valve ships CS2 updates without warning. Steam pulls a few megabytes in the background, your next match already runs on the new build, and the notes show up afterwards. There is no release calendar to follow, so the only habit that works is checking what moved once the client has updated. If Steam pulled something today, the card at the top of this page is the one you want.

Not every build is worth reading about. Plenty of them fix a bomb stuck in a corner or a texture on some wall. This feed keeps the ones that change how a round plays out: weapon damage and prices, maps entering and leaving Active Duty, economy rules, anti-cheat waves.

The raw notes live on Valve's official updates page, and they are deliberately terse. A line like “adjusted C4 damage falloff” tells you nothing about whether you now survive a plant behind cover. That is the gap we write into: what changed, and what it costs you in a real round.

How often CS2 actually updates

We count this from Valve's own Steam feed rather than from memory: 59 updates shipped in the last 365 days, and the median gap between two of them is 6 days. 74% of the gaps are a week or shorter, so "there will probably be something this week" is a fair bet.

The rhythm is ragged, though, and that is the part most guides skip. The busiest month in this window was April 2026 with 11 updates; the quietest was June 2026 with 1. The longest silence ran 34 days. So "Valve patches every week" is an average, not a schedule, and a month without a single build is normal rather than a sign that something broke.
