CS2 update: C4 explosion reworked, Cache returns

CS2's July update kicked off Premier Season 5: the C4 bomb blast became a shockwave, and Cache returned to Active Duty in place of Overpass.
Valve has shipped a major July update for Counter-Strike 2 and kicked off a new ranked season, Premier Season 5. The two headline changes: a redesigned C4 bomb explosion and an Active Duty map-pool swap — Cache is back, Overpass is out. The patch went live on July 8, 2026.
The C4 explosion, reworked
Previously the planted bomb dealt its damage instantly, ignoring cover — walls and corners didn't really save you. Now it's a shockwave: it expands outward from the plant spot, dissipates around corners and doesn't pass through walls. Damage comes from values baked into the map itself at compile time. On top of that, the health bar now previews how much HP you'll have left after the blast.
In practice, surviving a blast near the bomb is now about positioning: tuck behind a corner or wall and you take less. The community received the change positively, as a sensible QoL fix.
Cache returns, Overpass leaves
In the competitive Active Duty pool, Cache has replaced Overpass. For the pro scene it's a notable shift: teams are reshaping their map pools and grinding the returning Cache, while dropping the multi-level Overpass split opinions. How it reshapes the meta at the upcoming tournaments — we'll see in the first BO3 series.
Premier Season 5
The patch also started a new ranked season, Premier Season 5. Ratings reset on the usual seasonal schedule, so it's a good time to re-calibrate.
What else is in the update
Beyond the headline changes, the update added new weapon and sticker collections to the Armory, several community maps to casual modes, and scoreboard performance improvements. The full changelog is in Valve's official post. Follow more CS2 patches and esports with us.
