Valve Reissues Cologne Major Stickers: $60 Price Cap Instead of $1,500

For the second time in a single summer, Valve is reworking Major stickers. On July 29, CS2 got a new batch of IEM Cologne Major 2026 stickers — in a redesigned square format that displays each team's final placement at the tournament. The design isn't even the headline: where top stickers used to reach ~150,000 tokens (around $1,500), the most expensive ones now sit at 6,000 tokens — about $60. With that, Valve effectively admitted the May token shop with dynamic pricing "wasn't producing reasonable prices."

What exactly shipped on July 29

The new stickers are called "ranked" not because of matchmaking: every team got a sticker showing its final Major placement — from the champion's design for Falcons down to the bottom of the standings. They're on sale until September 29, 2026, at a fixed rate (100 tokens ≈ $1). The protection mechanic still applies: if a sticker's price drops by more than 25 tokens within 24 hours of purchase, the difference is refunded automatically.

Why a redo was needed

The May system — the first Major in CS history without sticker capsules — turned into a double failure. For players, prices went to the moon: a full set of the 100 most expensive stickers cost $19,447, with a single top sticker at $1,522. For teams it went the opposite way: sticker revenue for organizations collapsed by roughly 80% — from ~$600,000 at the Budapest Major to ~$120,000 at Cologne. Context: a lawsuit and a cautious Valve

According to esports media, the move away from capsules is linked to the February lawsuit by the New York Attorney General accusing Valve of illegal gambling mechanics via loot boxes in CS2, Dota 2, and TF2. Valve hasn't commented on that connection, but the direction is easy to read: instead of case mechanics — direct purchases at a fixed price, now with a cap on top.
