Luminosity Gaming return to CS2 after seven years

On July 1, Luminosity Gaming announced their return to Counter-Strike — the first time since 2019, when the brand was sold to Aquilini GameCo along with its Brazilian roster. Founder Steve Maida bought the Luminosity rights back in January 2026, and built the new lineup out of fresh free agents: Aleks "Rainwaker" Petrov, Aurimas "Bymas" Pipiras, Aurélien "afro" Drapier, and Oscar "AZUWU" Bell — all four had recently played for Monte. Lucas "lux" Meneghini, formerly of Legacy, joined as the fifth player and was named IGL.

"When we were evaluating entry points back into the scene, the opportunity to sign the core as free agents presented itself," Maida said in the official announcement.

The details matter here: only three of the former Monte players arrived as free agents — Bymas, afro, and AZUWU's contracts had expired after IEM Cologne Major. Rainwaker had to be bought out of an active contract separately. And the captain of that Monte lineup, Jack "Gizmy" von Spreckelsen, didn't join Luminosity at all — he took over as 100 Thieves' IGL, replacing Håvard "rain" Nygaard. The Monte core didn't move as a single block in the end; it split into two competing projects.

G2 swap their AWPer: r1nkle in for SunPayus

On June 25, G2 Esports benched Álvaro "SunPayus" García — the decision came after the team's quarter-final exit to Spirit at IEM Cologne Major. Artem "r1nkle" Moroz took his spot, having been pushed out of Ninjas in Pyjamas' starting five when the team moved Martin "stavn" Lund into the sniper role. r1nkle made his G2 debut on July 21 at BLAST Bounty Season 2.

GamerLegion bring back FL4MUS

On July 17, GamerLegion announced the return of Timur "FL4MUS" Marev — a year and a half after he first left the club. In between, the rifler played for Virtus.pro, where he lost his starting spot, and went through loan spells at OG and BetBoom. "We are really excited to welcome FL4MUS back indefinitely as we begin the next chapter and head into the new season," the organization said in its statement. His debut for the refreshed lineup against HOTU on July 22 went well: a 1.35 Rating 3.0 across two maps and a player-of-the-match performance.

Astralis hire a foreign coach for the first time — NEO

Back in June, Astralis fired coach Casper "ruggah" Due after the team fell short of the second stage at IEM Cologne Major, and on July 16 they announced Filip "NEO" Kubski as his replacement. For a club that has always prided itself on a purely Danish roster and staff, this is the first time a foreigner has coached the team. NEO himself left FaZe in March 2026 after nearly three years there, during which the team won four trophies — including IEM Sydney 2023 and IEM Chengdu 2024 — and reached three Major finals.
