CS2 Map Pool in 2026: The Current Active Duty Lineup

The CS2 map pool in 2026: Cache is back in Active Duty in place of Overpass. Here are all seven maps, the rotation history, and what else joined the reserve pool.

Seven maps, one season, and a question CS2 players argue about every single rotation: what's actually in the pool right now? After Valve brought Cache back into Active Duty and sent Overpass to reserve, the CS2 map pool in 2026 looks different from just a couple of months ago. Here's the current lineup, what changed in the latest patch, and a quick rundown of how the Active Duty system actually works.

The current CS2 Active Duty map pool in 2026

With the start of Premier Season 5, Active Duty runs seven maps — all bomb-defusal:

MapType
Dust2Defusal
MirageDefusal
InfernoDefusal
NukeDefusal
AncientDefusal
AnubisDefusal
CacheDefusal

These are the only seven maps players see in Premier and at tier-one events right now. Mirage holds the pool's absolute stability record — per HLTV, it's the only map to appear at all 19 CS:GO Majors, and it has never once left Active Duty.

Cache in, Overpass out — the newest pool change

On June 22, 2026, Valve announced the swap: Cache enters Active Duty, Overpass exits, with the rotation taking effect July 6 alongside Season 5. We already covered the full announcement and how Cache made its way back into CS2 back in April. Prepping for ranked on the new map — we also have a dedicated Cache callouts and strategy guide.

Overpass lasted roughly a year in the pool. Per HLTV, it was picked just 13 times at the IEM Cologne Major — tied with Nuke for fourth-most-picked map in the pool. That was enough for Valve to send it to reserve.

What else the same patch added

Season 5 didn't just touch Active Duty. Three new maps landed in standard Competitive, Casual, and Deathmatch — Boulder, Fachwerk, and Shelter. Shelter is a hostage-rescue map too, just with rescue dogs standing in for hostages. Wingman got Debris and El Dorado in the same update.

None of these five maps are Active Duty candidates yet — they sit in the reserve pool, where Valve typically lets new maps prove themselves before a serious rotation. If a map holds up in public play without breaking balance, it does have a shot at Premier eventually — that's exactly the path Cache itself took.

How the Active Duty system actually works

Valve launched Active Duty in July 2014 alongside Operation Breakout: Train left the pool, Cache, Cobblestone, and Overpass joined, and teams saw the current map veto/pick system for the first time at ESL One Cologne 2014. The pool has shifted several times since:

WhenWhat happened
July 2014Active Duty launches (Operation Breakout): Train out, Cache, Cobblestone, and Overpass in
March 2019Vertigo replaces Cache after almost five years in the pool
May 2021Ancient replaces Train
November 2022Anubis replaces Dust2
April 2024Dust2 returns, Overpass out
January 2025Train returns in place of Vertigo
July 2025Overpass returns in place of Anubis
January 2026Anubis returns in place of Train
July 2026Cache returns, Overpass out

Rotations don't follow a fixed schedule — Valve updates the pool when a map clearly stops landing with teams at events, and that most often happens between Major cycles.

What's next

The first major event on the updated pool is BLAST Bounty, which kicked off July 21. No further Active Duty changes have been officially announced. The next conversation about the CS2 map pool will most likely wait until the next Premier season — until then, the seven maps in the table above are the current list.
